Scotch Whisky Investments
A marked whisky cask from The Glenlivet Distillery, dated 1952

One cask today, a legacy for the next generation.

Buy individual casks of Scotch whisky in your own name. We store, insure and manage them in Scotland, and stay with you until the exit.

From
€20,000

Casks are bought individually, so the entry size follows the casks you choose rather than a fixed package.

What it is

You buy one or more individual casks of Scotch whisky, in your own name, and we take care of everything around them: storage in Scotland, insurance at market value, cask management through maturation and reporting on how they develop. There is no portfolio construction and no pooled vehicle: you hold a single cask, in your name, left to mature undisturbed.

Who it is for

Investors starting with a long horizon and a tangible asset in mind, often with a next generation in view. It is also the natural first step towards managed portfolios later on.

Ownership starts at a single cask, selected with you and held in your name from day one.

The route in

From first conversation to your own cask

01

Investor profile

We map capital, horizon and how involved you want to be, and check whether a cask fits at all.

02

Selection and regauging

Candidate casks are measured for volume, strength and character before anything is offered to you.

03

Agreement

A single agreement setting out what you own, what we do and what it costs.

04

Transfer of ownership

The cask is registered in your name and stays in the bonded warehouse in Scotland.

05

Annual reporting

Once a year you receive a value and quality report on your own cask.

06

Personal guidance

One adviser stays with you, through maturation and at the exit.

Cask Management

A living asset, watched daily

A cask is not a certificate in a drawer. Volume, strength and character keep moving, and without management that movement can turn irreversible. Yours is stored at our own group warehouse in Glenrothes, monitored through regular measurement, physical inspection and digital records, insured at market value, with one point of contact from the day it arrives to the day it leaves.

Costs

Everything included for the first five years

After that a single all-in fee, with a cap. Nothing hidden in the purchase price.

Exit

More than one way out

A cask is illiquid, but it is not a dead end. We help you choose the route and the moment.

01

Sell to an investor

Directly, or through our own network of investors.

02

Auction

Through an accredited platform, under your own name.

03

Sell to the industry

Blenders and independent bottlers buy maturing stock.

04

Buy-back by SWI

In exceptional cases we may buy the cask: a possibility, not an obligation.

05

Bottle under our label

Turn the cask into finished bottles carrying our label.

06

Bottle independently

Or through an independent bottler of your choosing.

07

Move into asset management

Roll the cask into a managed portfolio and keep going.

08

Pass it on

Transfer or gift the cask, or leave it to the next generation.

Risks

Fully informed, before anything is signed

A single cask is a concentrated position in an illiquid market. These are the points we always discuss.

01

Risk class 6 of 7

The AFM assigns investing in whisky risk class 6 of 7.

02

Value can fall

Including below the purchase price. No return is guaranteed, and projections rest on historical data and assumptions.

03

Illiquid asset

Selling can take time and depends on finding a buyer at an acceptable price.

04

Long horizon

Value and return depend heavily on the term. Whisky suits investors who can wait.

05

A natural product

Character can develop the wrong way and volume is lost to evaporation. We manage and store daily, but cannot guarantee the final quality.

06

Leakage

Rarely, a cask leaks through damage or wear. We inspect regularly and act immediately when something is found.

We advise investing only freely investable capital, with a horizon beyond ten years, and no more than 10% of that capital in whisky. This page is general information, not financial advice.
