Benromach Distillery, founded in 1898 in Forres, near Elgin, has a rich history deeply rooted in Speyside’s whisky heritage.  In 1993, the Urquhart family, owners of the renowned spirits company Gordon & MacPhail, acquired Benromach with a clear mission: to revive the lost Speyside style. By using malted barley with just a whisper of peat smoke, Benromach reintroduced a traditional touch of smokiness that once defined Speyside whiskies. This subtly smoky character adds depth and complexity to Benromach's core range, setting it apart in the world of single malt Scotch whisky. 

The Reopening and a New Era for Speyside Whisky 

In 1998, Benromach was ceremoniously reopened by Prince Charles, marking a new chapter for the distillery and a celebration of Speyside's distinctive single malt style. Benromach’s unique profile—a Speyside whisky with a hint of peat smoke—honors a tradition from over a century ago, giving modern whisky enthusiasts a taste of history. 

The Contrasts Range: Limited-Edition Innovation 

Benromach also offers the Contrasts range, a series of limited-edition, single-batch, or single-cask releases. Each release is crafted with a specific process, barley type, or cask, reflecting the distillery's commitment to experimentation. This range provides whisky lovers with exclusive and varied options, appealing to those who seek unique, collectible whiskies.

Today, Benromach is proudly owned by Gordon & MacPhail, a family-owned company based in Elgin, Morayshire, with origins dating back to 1895. This partnership ensures that Benromach remains a prominent name in Speyside whisky, offering a taste of tradition with every bottle.
